  3. During the final months of the war in 
  4. Europe, as Allied pilots and air crews 
  5. became more and more experienced and 
  6. gained the confidence that comes with 
  7. winning, it became increasingly difficult 
  8. for the Luftwaffe to mount significant 
  9. defensive forces.  Beside the lack of fuel, 
  10. there was a dearth of qualified pilots.
  11.  
  12. As He 162 designer Ernst Heinkel put it, 
  13. "(The) unrealistic notion that this plane 
  14. should be a 'people's fighter', in which the 
  15. Hitler Youth, after a short training, could 
  16. fly for the defense of Germany, displayed 
  17. the unbalanced fanaticism or those days."

  19.                     YOUR MISSION
  20.  
  21. Take off from Bassenheim Luftwaffe 
  22. airfield and lead your flight of He 162s up 
  23. to 25,000 feet to intercept an incoming 
  24. Allied bombing raid on the Wesselring oil 
  25. refinery.  Follow the waypoints shown on 
  26. your map to vector your squadron 
  27. properly for a successful interception.  A 
  28. pair of FW 190s will handle the escort 
  29. fighters while your Volksjagers attack the 
  30. bombers.
